THANK YOU FOR VISITING US.

New Albany for Kids is an independent, grass roots volunteer organization.  Our mission is to promote academic excellence in the New Albany – Plain Local School District through on-going advocacy, communication, and community involvement.

WHAT'S NEW?
Updated: March 12, 2012

New Albany for Kids is proud to be a co-sponsor of the upcoming visit by noted education leader Tony Wagner.

Tony Wagner has served as Co-Director of the Change Leadership Group (CLG) at the Harvard Graduate School of Education since its inception in 2000.  An initiative of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, CLG is a “R & D” center that helps teams to be effective change leaders in schools and districts.  He also was on the faculty of the Executive Leadership Program for Educators, a joint initiative of Harvard’s Graduate School of Education, Business School, and Kennedy School of Government.

Despite the best efforts of educators, our nation’s schools are dangerously obsolete, argues Dr. Wagner.  Instead of teaching students to be critical thinkers and problem-solvers, we are asking them to memorize facts for multiple-choice tests.  Meanwhile, young adults in India and China are competing with our students for the most sought-after careers around the world.

Dr. Wagner recently accepted a position as the first Innovation Education Fellow at the Technology & Entrepreneurship Center at Harvard.  He earned an M.A.T. and an Ed.D. at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education.  This is an incomparable opportunity to listen, learn, and share insights about transforming education.

STRATEGIC PLANNING

Learn more

Members of New Albany for Kids executive leadership team participated on the Planning Committee and Action Plan teams.  We continue to be a strong advocate for strategic planning and community engagement.  We would like to see broader community awareness and engagement.  We have already asked school officials to develop a comprehensive communications and engagement plan and we hope to see greater efforts in this area.
